RAP FOR REFUGEES

For almost seven years, Rap for Refugees has stood for empowerment through art and culture. With creative workshops, concerts, and our annual festival, we have given countless young people the opportunity to express themselves, overcome barriers, and be part of a community.

However, in order to further expand our vision and make it more sustainable, it is time for a new beginning. Rap for Refugees will continue as an independent project under the “Art & Culture” pillar of the newly founded association R1SE e. V..

FROM RAP FOR REFUGEES TO R1SE

What is changing —
and what remains the same

By renaming ourselves R1SE e. V., we want to professionalize our work and place it on a broader footing. In addition to art and culture, we now also cover the areas of sports, promoting engagement, and vocational training. However, Rap for Refugees remains an integral part of the art and culture pillar and will continue to reach and support young people with creative offerings and events.

The new name reflects our development, but our mission remains the same:

to empower people through art, culture, and community.

Art as a voice for change

RfR-Hamburg Jam 2023

Rap for Refugees stands for hope, diversity, and attitude through the art form of rap. Since 2017, the project has been offering young people from challenging life situations a platform to express themselves artistically, strengthen their self-confidence, and experience social participation through music, dance, and art.

The focus is on free workshops in rap, beatboxing, graffiti & sketching, and hip-hop dance, which are open to young people with a refugee or migrant background in particular, but also to anyone else who is interested. The art of hip-hop serves as a bridge—it overcomes language barriers and creates new opportunities for expression.

In addition to the workshops, Rap for Refugees has organized numerous concerts and festivals over the years. Here, participants have the opportunity to present what they have learned on stage and engage in exchange with established artists.
